Important Information for those Students Exhibiting COVID-19 Symptoms

The Patchogue-Medford School District would like to remind all parents that if your child exhibits any of the following symptoms they may have COVID-19:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

These symptoms can appear between 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.  If your child exhibits any of these symptoms, you must keep them home from school and have them tested for the virus. Rapid tests are acceptable. Positive cases must be reported to your child’s school. Your child can not return to school until proper documentation is received and he or she is cleared to return to school by the school nurse.

If a student needs to be medicated for pain or other symptoms before going to school, they must be kept home.

If your school nurse has requested that you seek medical attention for your child for COVID-19 symptoms, please do not send your child to school until your school nurse has received your paperwork and said that the student may return to school.

Please be advised that this may be subject to change based on our continual monitoring of the infection rate and any new guidance issued from the Suffolk County Department of Health or New York State Department of Health.

We need to work together to assure the continued health of our community.

Thank you for your compliance with these protocols.
