Students are invited to apply for South Ocean's National Junior Honor Society if they have attained a 90% overall average after the third quarter of both seventh and eighth grade.
Students are selected by a faculty committee based on the five pillars of criteria: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Citizenship and Character. Students are encouraged to prepare for consideration by becoming involved in a variety of activities which also includes service opportunities.
Service: Participates in groups such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, church or community groups or school activities that work to improve the quality of life for others
Leadership: Demonstrates leadership through positions of responsibility; exercises positive influence on others
Citizenship: Understands the importance of civic involvement and participation; has a high regard for freedom, justice and fellow human beings
Character: Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty, reliability, courtesy, concern and respect for others
South Ocean National Junior Honor Society Students works hard throughout the year to help others and raise money for important organizations. Students have participated in the following activities to help others: Jones Beach Breast Cancer Walk, Pink Hair for Hope, Stuck for a Buck/ Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Brookhaven Toy Drive.
