Dear South Ocean Middle School Families:
As the proud Principal of South Ocean Middle School I would like to welcome you to our website where you will find important information of interest about our school.
Middle schools serve the academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of students who are in a period of their lives where they change from children to adolescents. The staff of South Ocean Middle School is committed to creating and maintaining a caring environment where teaching and learning are exciting and students are assisted as they develop responsibility.
Each day presents wonderful opportunities to make a difference in the lives of children as we prepare them for their future. I am so proud to be a part of the Patchogue-Medford Community and look forward to a productive and enriching school year! Please do not hesitate to call 687-6600 if I can assist your family in any way.
Education Credo
-
I believe that all students have unique potential.
I believe that all students can learn, grow, and succeed.
I believe that the collective staff efficacy in the school building has a positive impact on student outcomes.
I believe that teachers are the most influential component to student learning, growth, and success.
I believe that it is my responsibility to lead, train, and support teachers in their work with students and families.
I believe that students learn best when; provided voice and choice, learn using multiple modalities, provided authentic learning experiences, and are given multiple opportunities to find success.
I believe that curriculum should be culturally relevant and responsive to reflect the diverse background of our students.
I believe that for students to cultivate their talents, skills, and unique potential, I must create an environment where all students feel safe, connected, and engaged in school.
I believe that a strong home and school connection is important in supporting student learning.
I believe it is my responsibility to model and practice lifelong learning and professional growth to stay current in best practices to support staff, students, and the school community.
I believe it is important to work collaboratively with all stakeholders, welcome feedback, and regularly evaluate our programs to make recommendations for revision when necessary.
Sincerely,
Timothy J. Piciullo, Ed.D.
