  • Questions related to 504 and IEP meetings

    Posted by:

If you have a child with special needs that currently has a 504 or IEP we understand that you may have questions regarding their upcoming meetings. At this time, all CSE, CPSE and 504 meetings are suspended until April 13, 2020. If you have an upcoming meeting that is scheduled and should school continue to be closed, these will be held via the Zoom application (video/audio teleconferencing software). Team members will participate remotely. Your invitation will consist of a phone number to call or a URL link to connect using your computer or other personal device. Our special education clerical staff members will be communicating contact information to parents/guardians. Once your child’s meeting is scheduled, please email your child's teacher of record if you have questions regarding the meetings.

If your child was scheduled for an upcoming evaluation, we will resume face-to-face evaluation once the schools can reopen. At this time, for the safety of our students and staff, we are not conducting any face-to-face evaluations. If the evaluation can be conducted virtually and we receive parental consent for this, we will complete the evaluation in that manner.

  • Completing secondary work packets

    Posted by:

Student work packets have now been posted to the district website organized by grade level for K-8 and departmentally for grades 9-12. PDF work packets can be typed over and written over on all devices. The District has created a document explaining how this is possible, and it will be posted as a resource on the work packets page by the close of business today. For households that are concerned about data usage, Altice has offered 60 days of free WIFI for new customers. The link to this offer is available on the school website.  As another option, secondary students can view the assignments online and use a notebook to record their work.  They can label each assignment in their notebook.  The goal is to keep all students engaged in learning as we further prepare for distance learning.  Thank you for your patience and understanding during these challenging times.

  • How will students receive work packets?

    Posted by:

In light of the Governor’s order for residents to stay home other than those deemed essential to report, we have modified our directive to parents of secondary students regarding picking up copies of work packets.  Elementary packets have been mailed home. As of today, all coursework for the two week period beginning March 30th has been posted to the District website.  As a reminder, the week of March 23rd is vacation time for students.  Coursework assignments should begin the week of March 30th.   In order that the District may avoid unnecessary gatherings, parents of secondary students will have to access secondary work online.  South Ocean Middle School and the High School will be closed this week to non-essential people and no paper copies will be available for pick up from the schools.
