Two Oregon Middle School Students Receive Long Island Rail Road Safety Awards

MEDFORD, NEW YORK (JUNE 2026)—Two Oregon Middle School eighth graders won the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) 2025–2026 School Safety Backpack Contest. To celebrate, Oregon welcomed LIRR representatives and law enforcement, and LIRR President and Patchogue-Medford School District alumnus Robert Free presented Genesi Gillard and Jessica Knox with their awards and backpacks inspired by their illustrations.

Colin Jennings Eagle Scout

MEDFORD, NEW YORK (MAY 2026)—A Patchogue-Medford High School senior recently completed a meaningful community service project. For his Eagle Scout project, Colin Jennings replaced six benches at the main entrance of Patchogue-Medford High School, providing a welcoming and functional space for students and visitors and enhancing the appearance of the building.

PATCHOGUE, NEW YORK (APRIL 2026)—At an April 20th Board of Education meeting, the Patchogue-Medford School District announced Dr. Patrick G. Harrigan as its new superintendent, effective July 1st, 2026. Dr. Harrigan brings over 25 years of expertise in educational administration and leadership and will work with the Board of Education and central administration to ensure a smooth leadership transition following the conclusion of this school year.
