    Substantial Equivalent Instructional Experiences:

Full Year Courses (180 minutes required)

    • Courses that take place during the school day, meet twice per week for 60 minutes each. This is a total of 120 minutes. Teachers need to supply an additional 60 minutes of instructional experiences when students are on remote learning.

Half Year Courses (90 minutes required)

    • A-Day/B-Day courses that take place on full remote, meet with their class twice per week for 45 minutes each. No additional instructional experiences need to be posted since you met the mandated minutes for a half-year course during in-person instruction.
    • Physical Education: Grade 6 physical education requires 120 minutes of instruction. Since students will be meeting twice per week for 45 meets each, this is a total of 90 minutes. Teachers need to supply an additional 30 minutes of instructional experiences when students are on remote learning.
    • Physical Education: All students in grades 7-8 are required to attend and participate in physical education for not less than three times per week in one semester, and not less than two times per week in the other semester. Since we are only seeing students once per week, we must supply instructional experiences that are the equivalent of two physical education classes when students are on remote learning.

As per the NYSED Reopening Guidance documents substantial equivalent instruction may include, but is not limited to: meaningful and frequent interaction with a certified teacher; completing online work/tasks assigned by the teachers; viewing instructional videos; responding to posts or instructor questions; engaging with others class participants in an online or phone discussion; conducting research; doing projects; or meeting with a teacher with an instructor face to face, via an online platform or phone.  Any alternative instructional experiences must include meaningful feedback on-student assignments and methods of tracking student engagement.
