• Governor Andrew Cuomo, in Executive Order 202.26 issued on May 1, 2020, scheduled the School District Budget Vote and Elections for June 9, 2020.  The voting process will be accomplished by Absentee Ballot, with every registered voter, of record, in the school district receiving an Absentee Ballot by mail to be returned, postage-paid envelope will be provided, to the District Clerk to be received no later than Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

    The Budget Information Meeting will be held remotely on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. and broadcast via Facebook Live.

    Access to the list of Absentee Voters and Challenges to Voter Qualifications

    Any person who wishes to examine the list of absentee voters to whom ballots have been issued may request access to such list by e-mailing the District Clerk, Dennis Logan at dlogan@pmschools.org. The District Clerk will provide such access by a means which is agreed upon by the requestor and the District Clerk. If a qualified voter wishes to file a written challenge of the qualifications of any voter on this list, such challenge must be e-mailed to the District Clerk, Dennis Logan at dlogan@pmschools.org no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 9, 2020. Such e-mail must contain the reasons for such challenge. No written challenges received after 5:00 p.m. on June 9, 2020 will be considered.

    Running for the School Board
    The following is information for those who wish to run for one of the two (2) open seats on the Board of Education this year:

    1. The deadline for filing petitions for candidacy for the Board of Education is Monday, May 11, 2020, 5:00 p.m. – Prior to submitting the petition, please contact the District Clerk’s office at (631) 687-6370 to arrange a mutually convenient method or time to submit the petition – District Clerk’s Office (Administrative Center, 241 South Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, New York 11772). 

    2. Qualifications for Membership on a School Board: 
      • Must be able to read and write
      • Must be a qualified voter of the district, that is, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age or older, and not be adjudged to be incompetent
      • Must be and have been a resident of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year immediately before the election.
      • May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year
      • May not reside with any member of the same school board as a member of the same family
      • May not be a current employee of the school board
      • May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office 

    1. No signatures are required. 

    2. Before filing a nominating petition with the District Clerk, be sure that: 
      • The nominee’s full name and address are legibly printed on each page; 
      • The certification that the candidate is qualified to serve on the Patchogue-Medford Board of Education is completed. 

    1. Board of Education seats are elected at-large. Petitions are not for specific and separate seats.  The two (2) candidates receiving the most votes on June 9, 2020 will be considered elected.

    2. Ballot positions will be assigned alphabetically based on the first letter of the candidate’s last name.

    Voter Qualifications:
    To be eligible to vote in school district elections a person must:

    • Be at least 18 years of age
    • Be resident of the school district for at least 30 days prior to May 21, 2020
    • Be a citizen of the United States
    • Be a registered voter with the Suffolk County Board of Elections

    Voter Registration:
    Qualified voters are not able to register in person due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  It is suggested that they may register using the following link no later than May 26, 2020:

    Qualified voters may also register with the Suffolk County Board of Elections to vote in all municipal elections relating to their address.  These registration forms are available from the Office of the District Clerk and from the Suffolk County Board of Elections - (631) 852-4500.  Those who register up until the day before the vote (May 18) will be permitted to vote on May 20.

    Military Ballots:
    Military Ballot Applications may be obtained from the Office of the District Clerk and submitted to the District Clerk, by mail, no later than Thursday, May 14, 2020.  Military Ballots will be mailed out no later than Friday, May 15, 2020 and must be filed with the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.
