Please join me in congratulating the following staff members who were selected as Employees of the Month.

    Melissa O’Brien, Teacher, Eagle

This recognition is bestowed as a result of Mrs. O’Brien’s willingness to assist a student in need. A student in her building was exhibiting difficulty navigating a number of issues pertaining to relationships, self-image and many other concerns. This particular student refused to speak with anyone, except Mrs. O’Brien. It should be noted that this particular child is not one of her own current students, but she nevertheless made the time to connect both during the school day, and after school hours. She worked with the child’s guardian to restore and strengthen the family relationship, and made herself available to speak with the guardian outside of school.  We never know the impact that we have on a child until many years later, but you can bet that the intervention and connection That Mrs. O’Brien provided will undoubtedly be a pivotal moment toward the child’s future success. In addition to her efforts in this instance, she is a constant cheerleader for her building and she possesses a sunny disposition that helps to promote a positive culture. We are proud to recognize her efforts and we look forward to her continued contributions. Thank you for all you do!

Elma Carpenter & Cynthia Mongrella, Special Education Aides at Barton

This recognition is for their flexibility and responsiveness to support the building with substitute coverage when needed. This year, it has been difficult to fill aide vacancies and Ms. Carpenter and Ms. Mongrella have made themselves available to cover whenever necessary. They understand the importance of continuity for our students, and their efforts help to ensure their daily success. Whenever called upon, they do not hesitate to respond in the affirmative, despite the time of the call or the service they are asked to provide. In addition, their positive, outgoing dispositions help to promote positivity in their building. We are proud to recognize their efforts and we look forward to their continued contributions. Thank you for all you do!

These candidates represent some of the best of Patchogue-Medford and were nominated for their positivity, work ethic, spirit of collegiality and connection with students. We are honored to celebrate their contributions and the many more staff members who continue to exemplify the traits that make Patchogue-Medford stand out!
