Please join me in congratulating the following staff members who were selected as Employees of the Month.
Erin Skahill, Principal, Eagle
Mrs. Skahill is the principal of Eagle Elementary and President of the Patchogue-Medford Administrators’ Association. Mrs. Skahill consistently rises above and beyond her role of principal to inspire and support her staff, students and parents. She frequently checks in with her staff outside of the contractual day via text or phone call to see how they are doing after being out sick, on leave of absence or after they suffered a death in the family. She understands the importance of relationships, which helps to promote a positive culture within the building. She is always smiling and optimistic even in the face of difficult situations, such as the recent visit by NYS representatives. Mrs. Skahill is a strong leader and constant advocate for her staff and students’ needs. She is devoted to continually improving her practice evident in the time she allocates to sit side-by-side with her staff to learn and grow as a team. In addition, she works tirelessly to improve the aesthetics of the building by coming in on Saturdays to work with custodians, choosing dynamic wall colors, flexible seating arrangements, playground equipment, flower gardens and using her own money to purchase benches, flowers and other assorted items. Her enthusiasm and efforts when it comes to assisting our students, staff, and community are greatly appreciated, and we are proud to celebrate her accomplishments! Congratulations!
Matthew DeMarco, Special Education Teacher, PMHS
Mr. DeMarco is a special education teacher at Patchogue-Medford High School. He exhibits a positive, cheerful disposition that works to foster a healthy, positive culture. During exit summary meetings with seniors, he easily turns what could be a mundane experience into a situation that is vibrant and uplifting. Mr. DeMarco consistently coaches and mentors his students to guide them in reaching their full potential. He understands the importance of relationships and takes the time to really get to know his students, and to research information that will support their growth. He gives new and improved meaning to the phrase “No Child Left Behind” in that his primary concern is his students' mental health and attitude, which is the springboard to their academic growth and success. He cares about his students 110% and for that we are proud to celebrate his efforts and recognize him as an Employee of the Month. We look forward to your continued contributions!
