LEAP Team (Lisa Bing, Julieta Hannaford, Janny Lao, Vicky Sheridan, Corinne VanWickler)

    • As contributing members of the Language Enrichment Academic Program (LEAP) at S. Ocean Middle School they all made an incredible impact on our students. This program was created to support the needs of beginning level ENL students. Students who participated were drawn from all three middle schools. Through the collective effort of the LEAP team, they developed a curriculum that span across the content areas to support the students’ needs. As a group they collaborated both during and after school hours to modify and enhance lessons, and through their extraordinary efforts an overwhelming majority of the students who participated in this newcomer program demonstrated large gains in their language development.  Specifically, 77% of the students who participated in the LEAP program jumped 2-3 levels in their NYSESLAT performance in one year. Their dedication and collaboration with their colleagues in response to this initiative is truly remarkable and we are grateful for their individual and collective efforts!

    • Mr. Lopez is a custodial worker at Barton Elementary School. Over the summer he demonstrated tremendous initiative and helped to establish a high work standard for both himself and other members of his team. He has created an open line of communication with building administration, which helps to proactively address concerns before a situation arises. He has a thorough understanding of the building and his friendly, outgoing disposition has established him as a “go-to” member of the staff. He has demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced when he has filled in as the chief custodian when needed, as well as the high standard he maintains in fulfilling his daily responsibilities. His enthusiasm and efforts when it comes to assisting students, staff and the community are greatly appreciated.

    • Ms. O’Sullivan works as an office assistant in the High School Main Office. Her knowledge when it comes to the attendance office is second to none and she is an essential resource when it comes to providing answers for students and staff. She provides guidance to new employees, which helps to impart knowledge and confidence in their new role. Ms. O’Sullivan has a service mentality and she consistently places the needs of others at the forefront, but today we are proud to recognize her efforts. Her enthusiasm and efforts when it comes to assisting students, staff and the community are greatly appreciated. Thank you for all you do!
