First Grade Buzz

  • Happy New Year!  We hope your holidays were wonderful and that you enjoyed the time with your families.  This year is going by so quickly.  We are working hard to get ready for second grade.  December was a fun filled month.  We learned all about December holidays and how Christmas is celebrated around the world.

This month we will be learning about Martin Luther King Jr.  We are reading and talking about the seasons and weather associated with the seasons.  In math we have been learning all different strategies to add numbers together.  We are going to be practicing subtraction in our next unit. Please use the flashcards that were sent home to practice each day.  It is also important that your children are spending 20 minutes each night reading and practicing the words in their word wallets. Guided Reading and independent centers are happening each day.  Our personal narratives are nearly finished and we will be moving on to nonfiction writing.

Don't forget that homework packets are due every Friday.
    Please empty folders every day.
Please dress appropriately for winter weather.  We go outside, weather permitting.
