The Performing Arts play an important role in the Patchogue-Medford educational program. From first grade through their high school years, students will have the opportunity to learn to read, write, create and perform music. The elementary classroom music program in Patchogue-Medford serves as the foundation for music literacy instruction. The instrumental and choral music training, which begins in fourth grade, provides small group weekly instruction as well as ensemble rehearsal experience for all performing groups. As a result, the performing ensembles at the elementary, middle, and high school levels receive recognition for excellence and traditionally obtain NYSSMA Majors ratings of Gold or Gold with Distinction.
Patchogue-Medford's music program is well represented in the County and State Music Festivals each year. Historically, we have had students selected to perform in the NYSCAME, LISFA, and SCMEA All-County Festivals, as well as the NYSSMA All-State and NAFME All-Eastern Conferences. In addition to the performing ensembles, the high school takes great pride in offering Piano classes, as well as Music Theory and AP Music Theory
In addition to the winter and spring concerts, our performing arts program includes: All-District Jazz Night, High School Pop's Concert, All-District String Night, and All-District Vocal Night. As a district member of SCMEA, the music students in Patchogue-Medford from elementary school to high school participate in many "day of" festivals. These include PEAK Festival, Day of Horn, Day of Euphonium and Tuba, Day of Recorder, Day of Percussion and Day of Jazz.
