MEDFORD, NEW YORK (APRIL 2024)—The Patchogue-Medford High School baseball program has started the season with excitement and achievement. Coach Anthony Frascogna notched his 300th win, a strong testament to the impactful program and team culture he has built during his 23 years as the Patchogue-Medford High School Varsity Baseball Head Coach. In addition, Patchogue-Medford High School seniors Bryan Frascogna and Rob Melo were named to Newsday’s top 100 Long Island high school baseball players list, and longtime Patchogue Youth Athletic Association President Peter Feehan and four alumni were inducted into the Patchogue-Medford Baseball Hall of Fame.

The season opener against Central Islip Senior High School set the stage for Coach Frascogna’s 300th career win. The Raiders bested the Central Islip Musketeers 5-1. Patchogue-Medford School District Director of Physical Education, Health, Athletics, and Health Services Anthony Cracco presented Coach Frascogna with a commemorative plaque as the team and community members celebrated his monumental achievement.

“Coach Frascogna is a Patchogue-Medford fixture,” said Mr. Cracco. “Born and raised in our community, he has turned Raider baseball into a model program. He works tirelessly to support baseball players and all athletes in our community.”

Coach Frascogna began his career at the Patchogue-Medford School District as a student, lettering in baseball and football and graduating in 1986. He went on to play baseball at James Madison University and eventually returned to the District as a beloved physical education teacher. He became the head baseball coach in 2001 and transformed the program into a powerhouse. Under his leadership, the Raiders made the county playoffs 14 consecutive seasons and reached the county finals in 2006, 2007, and 2023. He has guided the youth and high school careers of collegiate and professional players, including current New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman and 2023 Milwaukee Brewers first-round pick Josh Knoth.

Coach Frascogna is an impactful community leader and motivates his players to engage in community service. He is the president of the Suffolk County Baseball Coaches Association and orchestrates the NPMYAC Raiders Baseball and Softball Little League. The Patchogue-Medford High School Baseball Team hosts offseason clinics and camps, involves little league athletes in game day ceremonies, and volunteers in the League of Yes, a baseball program for people of all ages with disabilities. Coach Frascogna was inducted into the Patchogue-Medford Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023.

In addition to Coach Frascogna’s honors, seniors Bryan Frascogna and Rob Melo were named to Newsday’s prestigious top 100 players list. He is academically ranked sixth in the class of 2024 with a 103.7 GPA.

Rob, a right-handed pitcher and outfielder, is committed to play baseball at the United States Military Academy, also known as West Point.
