Canaan Elementary School Students Featured in Colors of Long Island Art Exhibit
Artworks Displayed in Long Island Museum of American Art, History, and Carriages
PATCHOGUE, NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 2024)—Two Canaan Elementary School fifth graders have been selected to showcase their work at the Long Island Museum of American Art, History, and Carriages’ prestigious student art exhibition. Keira and Francis Craig’s pieces are featured in this year’s Colors of Long Island exhibit until April 7th.
“At Canaan, we encourage our students to engage with their passions,” said Canaan Elementary School Principal Robert Epstein. “It is wonderful to see their participation in this creative learning process lead to widespread recognition and achievement. We are incredibly proud of Keira and Francis for representing Canaan at the Colors of Long Island exhibit. They worked tirelessly to create amazing pieces of art, and they truly deserve this honor.”
This is the Long Island Museum of American Art, History, and Carriages’ 25th annual student art exhibition. Each year, Long Island schools have the opportunity to submit pieces of artwork from two students. The selected work from K-12 art students is then showcased for museum visitors and exhibition attendees. Keira alebrije plaster and metal bird and Francis Craig’s flower are now on view for visitors to enjoy.
“We are committed to providing artistic pathways for success for our students to pursue,” said Patchogue-Medford School District Superintendent Dr. Donna Jones. “Through these opportunities for learning, exploration, and skill-development, our students engage with their interests and achieve spectacular growth. Selection to the Colors of Long Island puts the talent of our students on full display. Congratulations to Keira and Francis on this accomplishment!”
The Long Island Museum of American Art, History, and Carriages has been a staple of regional cultural activity since 1939. The museum is the only Smithsonian affiliate in the region and has received accreditations from the American Alliance of Museums since 1973 for excellence in exhibitions, programs, and collection care.
