Several local geologists found out that we are studying rocks and minerals and have asked for our help. They would like us to help them by becoming rocks and minerals detectives. Your job will be to collect clues about rocks and minerals and share your findings with your class.
The Task
Your group will use the Internet and other resources to collect clues about rocks and minerals and how they are used. You will gather information to share with the other members of your group. In an essay, you will answer the following questions:
1. What are minerals?
2. What are rocks?
3. What are the three different types of rocks and how are they formed?
4. What are the physical characteristics of your assigned rock?
5. What type of rock is it?
6. Where is your assigned rock found as a natural resource?
7. How is your assigned rock used once it is mined from the earth?
You will need to complete the following:
1. Answer questions in paragraph form.
2. World Map with the location of you rock-where it can be found around the world. (symbol for your rock)
3. Model of your rock.
4. 20 questions and answers about your rock. (Displayed on poster paper)
5. Poem about your rock using information, facts and details.
6. Power Point slide show.
Conclusion
You have now successfully located the physical characteristics of your assigned rock and where that rock is found as a natural resource. You have also located clues that tell others how that rock is used once it is mined from the earth.
