Parent/Teacher Association (P.T.A.)

     The South Ocean Parent/Teacher Association (P.T.A.) is a highly committed group of parents and teachers who work together very closely to raise money to benefit our children. These monthly meetings are an outlet for the community to find out what is going on at South Ocean. The P.T.A. is on hand assisting at many school functions. The P.T.A. asks that all parents, teachers, students, and friends of South Ocean join. The money collected is used to benefit the school and all students. The South Ocean Middle School P.T.A. for 2008-2009 are the following:

     Please note Friday, November 7, 2008 at 7 p.m. is the P.T.A.’s annual Fundraiser (Chinese)Auction here at South Ocean. Their upcoming meetings are as follows: 11/5, 1/6, 2/3, 3/3, 4/14, and 5/5. All meetings start at 7:30 p.m. following S.B.M.T. meetings and are held in the South Ocean Conference Room. We hope to see you there! Truly all are welcome.

 

Site-Based Management Team (S.B.M.T.)

     The purpose of the South Ocean Site-Based Management Team (S.B.M.T.) is to meet monthly as group of administrators, teachers, and parents to discuss various topics designed to benefit and enrich the lives of South Ocean Middle School students.  Dr. Rusielewicz, as the school building principal, is the facilitator and contact person for this group.   The S.B.M.T. group has supported a school writing initiative, anti-bullying programs and parent workshops.  Last year, we recognized student success with “On a Roll” Breakfasts, observing students’ academic and social achievements.  We could always use more volunteers for the S.B.M.T. and encourage you to attend. Our upcoming meetings are as follows: 11/5, 1/6, 2/3, 3/3, 4/14, and 5/5. All meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and are held in the South Ocean Guidance Conference Room. The monthly P.T.A meeting takes place right after the S.B.M.T. meeting, so why not attend two meetings for the price of one? Involvement of parents is essential to successful implementation of S.B.M.T. This group focuses the attention of shared decision-making teams on developing and implementing a plan for improving student learning and the school environment.  We hope to see you there!
