Mrs. Rothe's Class Receives American Flag From Iraq

During the cold month of December, the students in Mrs. Rothe's fifth grade class wrote letters
and collected snacks and drinks to send to Sgt. Steve Castillo who is currently serving in Iraq.
Sgt. Castillo is the brother of Bianca, one of the students in Mrs. Rothe's class.
Upon returning to school after spring vacation, Mrs. Rothe's class was surprised to receive
a package from Sgt. Castillo.  With the help of Principal Fran Lizewski, the students
opened the package to find a stuffed camel and an American flag with a proclamation from
President George Bush.  The proclamation states that the flag was carried on a combat mission
over Iraq in a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter on March 19, 2009.  What an honor to receive
this special gift from Sgt. Castillo!  An even greater gift for the students would be the safe return
of Sgt. Castillo to the United States of America, a gift that may happen as early as June.
