The Girls' Bowling coach, Mr. Art Lievre, is a math teacher at Patchogue-Medford High School. There is no defense in bowling, which means that the offense must always stay strong. The girls bowled their hearts out and had fun doing it. This is the first year that one of the Lady Raiders broke her own record which she had set only a few weeks earlier. During the match against West Islip, Noel Ocasio shot a 278 game a point off her then life time high which broke the school record of a 268, then against Comsewogue she bowled a 299 when the 10 pin didn't fall breaking her own school record. The first match against Longwood was also a close one, but Marissa Schultz pulled through with her life time high of 208. Mary Darbee and Kristina Layman held their own throughout the entire season as #2 and #3 bowlers respectively. The rest of the team, including two 9th graders, contributed to the team's success. The high team score for the season was a 1026 which was a second game over 1000 for the season. After claiming the second consecutive league title, the girls went to the county tournament where they'd be put head to head against rivals East Islip. After creating a 175 point lead after the morning set, they ended up with a 60 pin victory over the 4 time champions the East Islip Lady Redmen. The state tournament they finished 6th and became undeclared Long Island Champions by defeating East Meadow. Mary Darbee tied for the 3rd place for high game in states with a 232. All of this while maintaining student athlete status with a 90 overall team GPA. They would like to tell Mr. Lievre that they will miss him around school but they're glad he will remain a coach even after his retirement. The girls would also like to thank their coach, Mr. Lievre, fan club president, Charlie Santangelo, their friends, families, AJ, Katie, The Bellport Girls and Boys, The Patchogue Boys, and everyone else for all of their love and support. |
