TITLE: DINOSAURS

GRADE LEVEL: KINDERGARTEN/ Spring
 

OBJECTIVE: Using the technology available to students and teachers in the
Patchogue -Medford School District, Students Will Be Able To
 

· Access Student Writing Center to compose simple sentences
· Use learned vocabulary from field trip, demonstrations, and class experiences
· Follow simple directions for completing class projects and participating in class procedures
· Create composition that reflect different forms of writing (story)
· Use temporary spelling to write simple sentences and compose simple stories
· Use accurate spelling to write name and other personally meaningful words
· Print story using computer tool bar
· Choose picture from a teacher-suggested site to print illustration of their choice
· Design and develop standup booklets of dinosaurs to culminate Science unit
· Retell a simple story in sequence
· Recognize change over time in animals, plants and people
· Develop basic skills in scientific observation, and classification

         Standard 4- Students will understand and apply scientific concepts, principles and theories pertaining to the physical setting and living environment and recognize the historical development of ideas in science
            Standard 5.3 Students will apply technological knowledge and skills to design, construct, use and evaluate products and systems to satisfy human and environmental needs
Social Studies
            Standard 2-distinguish between past, present and future time periods

Procedure:

1. Group children in teams of four to six students for center work
2. Organize students according to assignments
3. Students will access Student Writing Center through the School Vista Bookshelf
4. Students will choose Letter format
5. Student will choose "Without Heading" Format
6. Student will type story using word wall, helper words, and peer editor
7. Student team will edit work
8. Students will access the Internet to choose picture
9. Students will print out illustration of their choice
10. Students will complete assignment in agreed upon period of time
 

Evaluation:

Students complete assignment in agreed upon period of time
Students demonstrate books through shared reading
Students display their stand-up booklets during A Learning Festival at school.
