TITLE: The QUILT

GRADE LEVEL: 3
 

OBJECTIVE: Using the technology available to students and teachers in the

Patchogue -Medford School District, Students Will Be Able To
 

· Research the history of the Patchogue Medford area and schools for the celebration of the millennium

· Design a square for a quilt using Super Link Paint program and specific paper purchased through MESTRAC grant

· Select information appropriate to the purpose of the investigation and relate ideas from one text to another

· Interpret information found on subject

· Discriminate between important and unimportant information

· Organize material into coherent structure

· Write a descriptive paragraph concerning the historical square illustrated using simple and compound sentences

· Use mature spellings in all written work

· Create a multimedia presentation using SuperLink, bringing all squares and descriptions to keep for future or for showing to parents at an open house

- Students will distinguish between near and distant past and interpret simple timelines
 
 
 

Procedure:

1. Group children in teams of four to six students for center work

2. Organize students according to assignments

3. With two students per computer, students will access Super Link to create square and type descriptive paragraph

4. Students will have agreed upon period of time at each Center to complete assignment

5. Students will come to computer with hard copy of design and paragraph

6. Students will cooperatively edit each others work
 
 
 

Evaluation
 

Students will complete assignment in agreed period of time

Students will present completed page to classmates to be joined together by teacher in folder.

Students will act as host/hostess for informal sharing with parents or others

· With support of computer personnel, students witness the designs being transferred on to Transfer paper used for this.

· With teacher support, students witness transfers ironed on to material

· With parent support, students stitch Quilt for hanging in Hallways of Eagle Elementary School
