TITLE: Editing

GRADE LEVEL: 2
 

OBJECTIVE: Using the technology available to students and teachers in the

Patchogue -Medford School District, Students Will Be Able To
 

· Select information appropriate to the purpose of their writing and relate ideas from one text to another

· Interpret information found on subject

· Discriminate between important and unimportant information

· Organize material into coherent structure

· Demonstrate Comprehension

· Make connections and organize thinking

· Demonstrate control over basic writing conventions

· Act as host/hostess for open house at school

. ELA Standard 1- Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing for information and understanding

Standard 2-Students will read, write, listen and speak for literary response and expression

Standard 3- Students will read, write, listen and speak for critical analysis and evaluation

Standard 4-Students will read, write, listen and speak for social interactions
 

MS&T Standard 2.1- Accessing, generating, processing and transferring information using appropriate technologies.
 

Procedure:

1. Group children in teams of two students for center work

2. Organize students according to assignments

3. Students will have agreed upon period of time at the computer to complete assignment

4. Students will choose specific Writing Workshop piece and type the story of choice to bring to publication

5. Students will Save work

6. Students will peer edit for complete sentences, correcting sentence fragments and run on sentences.

7. Students will peer edit for mature spelling

8. Students will decide if they will illustrate pages by personal author illustration or by using Student Writing Center Clip Art

9. Student will access and insert Clip Art if desired

10. Teacher and students will conference for 'Page Break' decisions (where the next part of the story will continue) This is essential for clarity of story line

11. Student will save work

12. Student will print from Print command on tool bar of Student Writing Center
 

Evaluation
 

Students will complete assignment on time

Students will share books with First Graders

Students will host an Open House for parents
